Introducing Our New Cat Clinic...
We are excited to announce the opening of our Cat Clinic! We have been working hard to improve the experience for our feline patients during their visits. We have created a separate space where they can relax without the stress of dogs barking or loud noises. The clinic is equipped with many items that will help your cat feel more at home. We provide warmed blankets, calming pheromone diffusers, and soft music. Our Cat Clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 2-4pm. Street parking is available on Fairfax Avenue or directly behind the Cat Clinic. Annual exams are an important part of your cat's life. Schedule your cat's appointment today by calling 502-895-8100.
Meet Dr. Reinhart!
We are so excited to announce the addition of a wonderful veterinarian to our staff. Her name is Dr. Consuela Reinhart. She is new to our clinic family but comes to us with 19 years of experience as a skilled practitioner and surgeon and has lived in Louisville for years.
Dr. Reinhart graduated from Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She relocated to Kentucky soon after and has been practicing high quality medicine and surgery ever since. She helps the community by working for a non-profit spay-neuter clinic in Elizabethtown, KY on her days off to care for pets of disadvantaged individuals and members of our military. We are so proud to have such a kindhearted veterinarian join our staff this year. Currently, Dr. Reinhart has three dogs, two cats, and two horses. She likes to say she has been “fostering” Chet, a Red heeler cattle dog- her favorite, for the past 17 years, but hasn’t found the perfect home for him just yet. Dr. Reinhart is extremely excited to have become a part of the hardworking St. Matthews Animal Clinic family in 2013 and continue her excellence in caring for pets and their owners. We can't wait for you to meet her!
Dr. McCoy to the Rescue
Did you know that Dr. McCoy, our Director of Medical and Surgical Services, works hard on her free time to help shelters and rescue organizations with their medical needs? You can find her spaying and neutering shelter cats and dogs almost weekly for non-profit organizations. She is well known at the clinic for her endless love for the less fortunate under-dogs and cats in this community.
She is holding cute little Princess Leia in this photo. She was resuscitated by Dr. McCoy after going into cardiac arrest while recovering from a successful surgery. Dr. McCoy couldn't help but take her home after the incident and make sure she fully recovered. She is now living with the family of one of our staff members and enjoying growing up.
Spotlight on Lawrence!
Say hello to Lawrence, our extremely talented professional groomer of over 26 years! He and his beloved dog, Buddy, come in together everyday to serve our wonderful grooming clients and their pets. He's a wonderful asset to our St. Matthews family!
Looking back at 2012- A letter from Dr. Schardein
As we start a new year at St. Matthews Animal Clinic, we enjoy looking back over the last 12 months and remembering all the pets and clients we have met. We also like to take stock and make sure we are giving back to the community by using our skills and resources to make a difference to the pets and charities in our city and beyond. We are proud to share with you a recap of our donations from 2012.
For years we have donated free and discounted services to the Animal Care Society, a no-kill shelter here in Louisville. In 2012, we provided over $14,000 in discounted services to help the pets they foster to find permanent homes. We treated sick pets as well as performed 16 spays and 17 neuters.
The clinic also takes in stray pets brought to our clinic, keeping them safe until, hopefully, they can be reunited with their people. In the past year we housed 83 stray pets! More than half made it back home, and the rest were eventually adopted to a new home or sent to a no-kill rescue facility. Our staff has volunteered their time at many fundraisers over the past year as well. Bark in the Park, the Million Mutt March, the JCC Doggie Swim, and Dog Days at Graeter’s Ice Cream just to name a few. We expect to participate in many more in 2013! We must also mention Dr. Tara McCoy, one of our staff veterinarians, who donates her day off each week to perform free spays and neuters at the Shelby County Animal Shelter.
When we can’t get involved, we try and donate what we can to local and national charities. We would like to mention the charities that are so important to us.

Million Mutt March 2012
We were so happy to support No Kill Louisville in their annual Million Mutt March this past weekend at Cherokee Park. Our practice manager, Deb, was number one- literally! Thanks to all the wonderful people who showed up to support the cause and kept us company during our walk. It was a great time spent watching dogs interact with each other and their owners, and we saw some wonderful Halloween costumes. We look forward to next year's event.

JCC Doggie Dip 2012
Dogs and open pools? This event couldn't have been more fun! The proceeds benefitted the wonderful work of Metro Animal Services. Dr. McCoy, Julian, and Tamara spent the entire day at the event taking in all the action with countless dogs jumping in and out of the pools. We can't wait until next year. Thanks to all the friendly new faces and clients who came over to say hello.

Welcome To Our New Website!
“Dr. Schardein takes time to listen‚ he’s kind, and also considerate of our feelings. He is also going the extra mile to help Rosey’s eye. All veterinarians should conduct themselves like he does. He is a down to earth kind of person.”
