Veterinary Ultrasound Techniques Bring New Diagnostic Options to Louisville & St. Matthews
St. Matthews Animal Clinic is pleased to offer ultrasound equipment to help with veterinary diagnoses. Many people associate ultrasound with the familiar “baby’s first picture” that may be taken when a pregnant mother is examined by her practitioner. These days, ultrasound is used in many different fields and in all kinds of medical diagnostics because of its ability to show internal structures and because it can be used for longer periods of time than X-rays—sometimes in conjunction with a veterinarian’s examination. Ultrasound is valuable for locating and assessing tumors, diagnosing liver disease, and detecting problems with the kidneys, heart, and lungs. St. Matthews Animal Clinic also has access to the services of a board-certified radiologist and ultrasonographer. His expertise is a major asset in helping to keep our patients healthy and accurately diagnosing problems.
Fortunately, ultrasound is typically tolerated very well and most animals do not require anesthesia or sedation. Ultrasound can of course be used in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures, such as veterinary X-rays, in order to get a more refined understanding of an animal’s state of health; to learn more about ultrasound and additional diagnostic options for your pet, check out TheThe AAHA's Healthy Pet website offers more information on advances in veterinary medical technology and additional diagnostic options for your pet.
